En 2020, avec A Hero's Death, Fontaines D.C. s'est classé deuxième au Royaume-Uni, a été nominé aux GRAMMYs, BRITs et Ivor Novello Awards, et a fait salle comble à l'Alexandra Palace de Londres. Aujourd'hui, le groupe revient avec son troisième album en autant d'années : Skinty Fia. Utilisé familièrement comme un explétif, le titre se traduit grossièrement de la langue irlandaise par "la damnation du cerf" ; l'orthographe a été grossièrement anglicisée, et son sens s'est dilué au fil des générations. À la fois romance douce-amère et triomphe politique sombre, les chansons forment en fin de compte une lettre d'amour à distance, qui déplore une culture de plus en plus privatisée qui risque de disparaître, comme le cerf géant irlandais.
